Martijn is a creative mind who is also a dad to three children. He thrives on challenges - anything from an adventure to choosing a vacation destination with his wife. Going to the beach near his home, trying recipes on his grill or building robots with his son. What he loves most is spending time with his family. Let’s hear more from him.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Martijn and I’m 37 years old. I was born and raised in Katwijk and I just stuck around. Maybe never leaving your village feels a bit traditional, but I don’t regret the choice. Especially now. I am married and have three children: one girl and two boys. My wife and I love the quirkiness of our town and spending time at the beach together.
What did you do, prior to this?
I have a degree in graphic design and in communication & multimedia design. I love being creative but as time passed by, I got more involved into coding and development. I realized that I liked the technical part better and gradually grew into that role. I started working as a project manager where I led a team with several developers. During that time, I expanded my technical skillset immensely. A former colleague approached me and recommended a job as a Solution Architect at Emark. Initially, I thought it was going to be too big of a challenge, but it turned out to be the perfect balance for me. For the past couple of years, I was working at Media.Monks as a CRM Enterprise Consultant. And there I also loved the combination of being involved in consultancy, in the technical area and also in designing the solutions.
What will you be doing at Valtech?
I’m going to work as a Salesforce Consultant. Together with our customers I will create a technical vision for a business case or problem that needs to be solved. Together we will look at the requirements and I will then make a proposal – as a team we will work on designing and building that solution.
Why did you choose Valtech?
Well, I already know a lot of people that work here. A former colleague – yes, it’s the same colleague as mentioned before - told me a lot about the organization and convinced me to apply here. In my last job, I missed the technical depth and I hope I will find it here. I took a leap and here we are.
What challenges and goals do you see for yourself?
Working with other Salesforce products than I do now. I am experienced working with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Sales & Service Cloud and Pardot, but Commerce Cloud is something I have to get acquainted to. And the Customer Data Platform is something I need to dive in as well. It will be a challenge, but I love to get into a new topic wholeheartedly and just figure it out.
What are your interests, outside of work?
Winter or summer I might be a newbie at it, but I am slowly, pun intended, mastering my meals with a slow cooker. I like to experiment with different ingredients and recipes and then the only thing I need to do is to put the lid on and wait until it’s finished. I also like tackling big or small projects around the house. Last summer I started redoing the attic. I really like planning, doing some research, watching YouTube tutorials – while wondering what I got myself into – and then just having a go at it. And when it all comes together, it’s the best kind of feeling. Doing stuff like that unlocks my creativity. Like when I start illustrating birthday cards for my family. I can lose myself completely when designing those - not always to the liking of my wife - she wants to send them out and be done with it.
What are your expectations from this job?
I need challenges. My biggest hope for this job is that I can develop and learn. I’m also looking forward to collaborating with other teams and get to know more about their specialties. Maybe I can use those specialties in my field as well or translate it to projects I’m working on. Just talking about it gets me excited.
