José Santos starts his Appsolutely Journey as a Salesforce developer. While working in Salesforce might have been his second job, it really is his first preference. He comes all the way from Portugal and loves the idea of living in the Netherlands. He looks forward to working with a team that is as passionate about Salesforce as he is. You can expect him to ask a lot of questions and deliver nothing but his best!
Who are you? What’s your background?
Hi, I am José Santos. I am 26 years old and I am from Lisbon, Portugal. I studied Telecommunications and Computer Engineering for my bachelors. I also started with my masters but my priorities kept oscillating between my studies and work. It wasn’t possible to excel at both, so I had to let it go.
I started my career working with Java for two years. When I started thinking about changing my area of work and looking at other technologies is when I found Salesforce. I started working with Commerce Cloud and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, so I decided to stick with it.
What will you be doing at Appsolutely?
Why did you choose Appsolutely?
I was contacted by the company through LinkedIn. I decided to go for the interview knowing that even if nothing came out of it, I would at least get some practice under my belt. However, it was after my conversation with Kjell and Marco that I came to know more about the company and the culture. I really appreciated their vision and passion for the company. Further into the interviews, I also spoke with Jaap and Floor and their thoughts really aligned with my views on the technology and sustainability. By the end of the process I knew I really wanted to work here. The fact that Appsolutely is based in the Netherlands - a country I always wanted to work in - was added bonus.
What are your expectations from this job?
I am expecting to work with colleagues that are passionate about what they do. I think I am looking forward to working with people who really love the tool (Salesforce) and don’t keep developing just because they must. I am also aware that Appsolutely is a multi-cultural company. I am excited about getting to know people from various nationalities and connecting with them. I think it really helps foster a more sensitive and aware mindset. I really missed the team connect during the last two years and I cannot wait to get back to that part of socializing.
What are your interests, outside of work?
In my spare time I like playing either football or basketball with friends. Though most of the times there are not many takers for basketball in Portugal. Since the pandemic started, I picked up running. It helped during the lockdown since it was an activity that you could do by yourself. It is also a great way to get some fresh air and sun, and it helps clear my mind.
I love travelling. One of the things I look forward to, after moving to the Netherlands, is just being able to travel in the northern part of Europe. I am also into science fiction and fantasy movies and books. Another thing I enjoy doing is watching any sport on TV.
How would you describe yourself?
I think I am a very happy person. I am also a bit of a perfectionist. So if I must deliver something and it’s not my best, I will redo it. In my head I take responsibility for everything I work on. I would rather take some time and finish something well, than do it in a hurry but deliver something sub optimal. I also like to study and delve deep into Salesforce. I will ask a lot of questions when I want to understand something.
