Friendly. Funny. And a fan of all things football. Those words describe our brand-new junior developer Floris Roos best! Trying to balance his studies with his job, he’s both excited and curious about working on Salesforce and getting to know his new teammates. Let’s hear more about our new colleague.
Can you introduce yourself shortly?
“Of course! My name is Floris Roos. I am 22. Born in Leiden, raised in Noordwijk and now living in Utrecht. I moved here for my bachelor’s and I am currently doing my master’s in computing science at Utrecht University.”
Why did you choose Appsolutely?
“I wanted to get practical experience working with a company, along with my studies. I searched for opportunities on LinkedIn and other job sites. The market is great for software developers and I had many choices. However, none of them felt right or personal. I got introduced to Appsolutely via Aga (Sklodowska) and I really felt at home and appreciated. I thought I’d rather work here, where I feel a connection. It also helps that I can just bike to work.”
How will you contribute to Appsolutely?
“I think one thing that I was hired for, is to bring a new and different perspective since I am still studying. I am expected to look at things with a fresh eye and come up with new ideas. That would be very interesting. As I say both my knowledge and my ignorance are fresh. Eventually I do want to be an asset to the company.”
What is a good workday for you?
“A good workday begins with a bike ride to work, no headwind. I like to get to work on time, say hi to all my colleagues. Start the day with a to-do list and just get into it. Have lunch with my colleagues. Maybe a nice coffee. Then at the end of the day bike back home with tailwind again, not headwind, haha!”
What goals and challenges do you see?
“My goal is to get more experience as a (Salesforce) developer. I have mostly worked on web and app development. Now I am learning a lot about Salesforce. I want to apply what I know, what I study and what I am learning to also figure out what kind of developer I want to be. Whether it is backend, frontend, testing etc.
Another challenge would be to focus both on my study and work. I want to learn a lot here and be valuable for the company but also pass all my courses.”
How would you describe your personality?
“A little bit crazy. Outgoing. I think I am funny - I hope I am, otherwise, I am the only one who will be laughing! Haha! I’m open to trying a lot of different or new things. I like meeting new people, getting to know their stories. I am a problem solver. I love analyzing and solving. I also developed perseverance, in my social life with sports and in my professional life with my education and work.”
What do you like to do in your free time?
“I’m passionate about friends, family, and sport. I have a large family in Noordwijk whom I visit every week. I like hanging out with my friends. I love watching sports as well as playing. I started playing football when I was 4 till I was about 18, when I had to stop due to an injury. At University I got into rowing. Since the pandemic started, I have gradually started playing football again.”
