Our new Salesforce Consultant Jaap Gorter describes himself as a ‘go-getter that can build bridges between the IT-guys and the Sales-Tigers’. Funnily enough, he likes to spend his free time in the most IT-like way possible: LAN-partying with his friends! Let’s get to know this down-to-earth northerner a little better.
Tell us more about our new Salesforce Consultant:
"My name is Jaap, I am 34 years old and recently moved to the beautiful province of Drenthe. My wife is from Peru. We met in Leiderdorp, and together we have a three year old son. I like to laugh and joke around, but I also get to the point when the situation calls for it. These aspects are reflected in my way of working."
What did you do prior?
"Before crossing paths with Appsolutely, I worked at Werkspot for three years. Here, I have gained a lot of experience in the operational management of sales and service teams. After three years of working as a Sales Analyst, I was ready for a new challenge. Guilherme, already a member of the Appsolutely team, had a role as ambassador, convincing me I had to get in contact with the inhouse recruiter. I immediately felt that everyone I was in contact with was serious about the work and business and felt right at home with them."
Why did you choose Appsolutely?
"I like the fact that Appsolutely is a relatively small company which is in its growing phase. The whole team is dedicated to make it a success, and you can really feel that everybody is working towards that same goal. In addition, I see my new job here as an opportunity to bridge the gap between the ‘soft’ world of IT and the often ‘hard’ side of business. Throughout the years, I have learned how to speak both ‘languages’, and I hope to add value to the organisation by ensuring we are aligned in producing results we can be proud of as a team."
What will be a challenge for you in your new job?
"I think my biggest challenge will be the change in thinking from micro management to macro management. In my previous job, I was working mostly at the back of the ‘funnel’. However, as a Salesforce Consultant at Appsolutely, it is my job to manage things in the early phase of setting up a new Salesforce organisation for a customer. I’ll have to learn to let go of the micro managing part, to be able to focus on the bigger picture."
What do you expect for your first days at Appsolutely?
"First days are always intense! I think they’ll mainly constitute introductions: getting to know my new colleagues and getting used to the way of working. I am curious to see how that works out in the current time with Corona. I’ll have to learn a lot of new things, and I am pretty sure I’ll be quite busy in the beginning with obtaining Salesforce certificates. I am confident though that everything will fall into place soon enough."
Lastly, what do you like to do you in your free time?
"I love having an old-fashioned LAN party with my mates every once in a while, although now we mostly spend time chatting instead of gaming. With this same group of friends, we occasionally go on outdoor holidays as well. Moreover, I like to spend time with my little boy when I am not working. And, when the sun is shining, I enjoy being outdoors. I live in Drenthe, so there is a lot of beautiful nature around us to benefit from! Lastly, I love working with wood. Currently I am working on a new oakwood table top for our dinner table."
